Our Story
Written by owner: Sandra
Our story started as a tiny seed of a thought that germinated around 2003. I had some time to do a small business course in which we were asked to come up with a business concept. As I was a tea drinker I noticed that a good cup of tea (let alone a tea shop) was hard to come by. I didn't finish the course because life got busy.
Fast forward to 2016, when I awoke excitedly and said to David (my husband) "I've just had this dream; I think I'm meant to open a teashop!'. I described the vivid dream with all the details: colour, art, tea and cake!
From my Christian perspective, the path was clear.
David wasn't too keen but humoured me and said 'Write a business plan'
'boring'
Now, numbers are not my thing and after a couple of false starts and God's assurance that the 'timing' wasn't right, I completely gave the idea away. It was the beginning of 2020 when David came on board with the idea of the tea shop, and the rest is history. He helped to set up my business account, sort the business name and dealt with all the legal palava and I was set.
We did write a business plan with a budget which flew out the window within a few months. My house filled with furniture, tea accessories and everything I thought I would need. I started to encroach on David's shed space when he said that it was time to go. I wrestled all that time with whether I was doing the right thing and asked God to confirm.
At every low point, I felt I should just sell everything and forget about it.
My space finally came along and I signed my life away. Two days later, someone I didn't know and didn't know my story, told me he had a vision of what I was creating. He saw it as a tree with lots of little birds fluttering around outside it. They duck between the leaves and have a rest, physically and spiritually.
This business represents everything I am. My passion for colour, art, cooking and of course...tea. Most of all, though, service. Service to God and to people.
